Q. What is tracker & how do they work?
A. Trackers come in many different shapes and sizes and can be covertly hidden in or on the vehicle or asset in question.
There are two types of tracker, Live and Data Loggers.
Live – Work by obtaining its position from at least 4 satellites which then works out its position in the same way as a car navigation system generally within a couple of meters. The tracker then reports this position back to a web server over the GPRS mobile phone network, the location reports can be pre-programmed as often as every 5 seconds if required.
FACTSData Loggers – Record the historical data every few seconds and stores it on the built in memory, the device can then be removed connected to a PC and the data down loaded via the correct software to produce a report. You can see exactly where the vehicle / asset has been, for how long, and what speed the vehicle was driven.
Vehicle tracker is the biggest deterrent to vehicle misuse.
